WALSH
Trust has been a leader in the provision of community-based
mental health support services in West Auckland
since 1988. It is a uniquely home-grown service
which is proud of it's community-based origins.
The West Auckland communities are at the heart
of WALSH Trust and represent it's life-blood.
We
are an independant charitable Trust. Our funding
is under contract by: Ministry of Health; Ministry
of Social Development; Department of Work & Income;
T.E.C. and by charitable donations from organisations
and individuals.
WALSH
Trust is governed by a Board of nine Trustees,
led by Chairperson Suzanne Sinclair. Board members
come from various backgrounds, bringing diverse
skills and valuable experience to the Trust.
Established
at the time large psychiatric hospitals (such as
Carrington, and Kingseat) were closing down, WALSH
Trust began offering housing and support to 12
people at Langford House; a property in Te Atatu
Road. WALSH Trust now offers a range of
mental health support services to around 300 people
who experience mental ill health.
Our
Mission Statement: Your
choice, your recovery, your community.
The
Trust’s philosophy centres upon the fundamental
belief that people can recover from mental ill
health. Recovery is defined in the Mental Health
Blueprint as the ability to live well in the presence
or absence of one’s mental ill health (or
whatever people choose to name their experience).
WALSH
Trust is managed under the leadership of Chief Executive,
Rob Warriner.
WALSH Trust Board and Management are proud to announce that Rob has been appointed
(in late April 2009) to the Mental Health Commission new Advisory Group. The Advisory Group is made up of about 14 individuals from around the country who report back to the Mental Health Commission on issues affecting the mental health sector in their region. WALSH is extremely proud of Rob’s appointment.
